🥇 Recap of the FIP World Championships and the incredible “Bandeja of the heart” from the Spanish team
In the World Padel Championships, the Spanish women's team triumphed over Argentina, securing their sixth consecutive title. An intense final, Spain's top-ranked players demonstrated their prowess on the court. Gemma Triay and Claudia Fernandez set the tone by defeating Argentina in the first match by 6-3, 6-2. The pressure mounted in the subsequent match though, after losing the first set, Spain rallied from a 4-1 deficit in the second to clinch a decisive victory, ultimately winning the match 3-6, 7-5, 7-5.
Meanwhile, in the men's division, Argentina emerged victorious after a series of exhilarating matches, claiming their twelfth world title. The Argentinian team of Tino Libaak and Leo Augsburger defeated Spain in a nail-biting tiebreak vs. Spain's Paquito Navarro and Miguel Yanguas.
In an amazing gesture following their victory, the Spanish team announced they would donate their prize money to the relief funds for the recent and disastrous flooding in Valencia. The floods claimed over 200 lives and caused significant damage. Which has resulted in an estimated €10.6 billion ($11.5 billion) in damage, according to the Spanish government.
🔥 Up level: Technique of the week
Following the WPT we wanted to focus on one of the absolute basics. Even though they’re not as exciting as beautiful viboras, bandejas and smashes, still just as important.
The highest percentage of shot errors during the WPT was on groundstrokes. As such today we are focussing on one of the basics, the Liftado. A controlled groundstroke with top-spin to buy space and win the net.
And who better to give you a reminder on how to master the basics than Paquito Navarro.

For a perfect lifted forehand, Paquito emphasizes two main points: tilting the Racket slightly downward to impart spin and executing an upward swing akin to a tennis forehand. The goal is to let the ball roll across your racket, adding the desired lift.

The advanced tip? Deception. Make it seem like you're about to hit a lob by positioning your racket-face upward, then change last second and surprise with a lifted punch.
When it comes to the backhand, it’s similar mechanics but with a twist. Balance and body weight are crucial. Lean forward to maintain control and avoid sending the ball sky-high. Paquito warns that the reverse lifted shot is tricky but rewarding if mastered—it’s all about surprising your opponent.

❄️ Dream court of the week
Perdel Padel - Finland
As someone who has lived there for a year I can tell you, few things hit the same as a proper Finnish sauna and an ice-bath afterwards. But combining that with Padel?? Oh boy, sign me up!

Perdel Padel is a small club with 2 state of the art Courts on a small Peninsula in Pirkkala, Finland. While the courts are outdoors, the close by Pereensa aren sauna let’s you warm right up again, before you plunge into the icy depths. A special padel experience…
